BETSY ROSS SCHOOL LIBRARY
We are delighted to encourage children to choose books that they will enjoy and to help instill in them a lifelong love of reading and books.
We have a few guidelines that we want to let you know about:
o We have discussed proper book care and responsibility with your children.
o Children should be responsible to return the books they borrowed at the time of their scheduled check out. (Occasionally, they will have 2 weeks or more, if their library day is a school holiday. )
o Lost and damaged books need to be paid for. (We will refund your money for a lost book if you should find it at a later date.)
o The Betsy Ross School Library Fine Policy is listed below. Please be sure to read it.
PLEASE HELP YOUR CHILD TO BE RESPONSIBLE WITH HIS/HER LIBRARY BOOKS AND TO RETURN THEM ON TIME.
Fine Policy
Books are loaned for a one week period from class time to class time. They may be renewed one time. In order to teach responsibility and to keep our books circulating – 3rd grade students are charged a fine of five cents per day for overdue books. As soon as a book is returned, the fine no longer accumulates, and other books may be checked out. If the fine is not paid promptly, the record is kept until the fine is paid.
We ask that late books be returned the next day, or as soon as possible, thereafter. The fines continue to accumulate, so the child should not wait until their next library check out day to return late books. They may choose new books to borrow, when the late books are returned. A $1.00 maximum per book, is charged. Fines do no accrue when a student is absent from school. When a fine exceeds the $1.00 limit, the fine must be paid before new books can be checked out.
If a book has not been returned one month after the due date, a notice will be sent home with the price of the book. If a book is paid for, and later found and returned, the money will be cheerfully refunded.
If books are returned damaged, students will also be charged the cost for replacement of the book. Notices will be sent home with the price of the book. Student borrowing privileges will be restored upon receipt of the amount due.
Please ask your child about the day of their library check out day, so that you will know when their books are due. There are no fines for weekends, holidays, vacations, or sick days. (We are not always aware of sick days or vacation days - in the library - and fines may be given. Your child may need to inform us about these occurrences.)
